Comixology Sale Picks: Indestructible Hulk

Comixology Sale Picks: Indestructible Hulk
Today's Marvel Monday Comixology sale is an Incredible Hulk special, which covers two different runs: the first ten issues of Mark Waid's Indestructible Hulk from 2012/2013, and 2005-2007's "Planet Hulk" storyline, by Greg Pak (with a 4-issue prelude by Daniel Way). So what should you buy?

Indestructible Hulk

Speaking as a pretty big fan of the character, I haven't been bowled over by Waid's run on the Hulk, in which Bruce Banner gets work for the Hulk as SHIELD's own semi-intelligent WMD. That said, the first few issues are stand-alone and easy to dip into. Issue #2 is a good Bruce Banner / Tony Stark story (fun if you like science bros!) and Issues #9 & #10 feature Waid's Daredevil, so they're worth buying for that reason alone.

Incredible Hulk Vol. 2

By comparison, Greg Pak's Planet Hulk run is a bona fide classic. You wouldn't call it definitive, given how far-out a use of the character is, but Hulk-does-Conan is an irresistable idea. So much so that there's a recurring rumour going around that it'll be done as a Hulk solo film.

So, the story: Dumped on an alien planet by those he called friends, The Hulk finds himself as a slave. Before long, he becomes a leader, and eventually a king. But can he hold onto happiness once he's found it? (what do you think?)

Issue's #88-91 are a prologue by writer Daniel Way, but the important bits from it are recapped at the start of Pak's run. Buy issues #92-105 inclusive.
